Each year, teams in Technology intense organizations set out to battle in Hack leagues, and propel their ideas to stand out. While all this competitiveness is imperative, it’s time we understand the core and objective of Hackathons. There’s a lot of Fun, Cross-Collaboration, Ideation and Execution (Yes, all of it) happening at a time, but we must know to treat Hackathons as opportunities to plug these ideas in real-world environment.

Hackathons teach us the below basic principles (and they must, in any hackathon), No matter what you call them — Crackathon, Battle Hack, Any-and-Everybody’s Hack :

1 — Code, code, code — till you get to perfection.

2 — Solve current problems of your products.

3 — Involve yourselves and collaborate with your work friends.

4 — Build Trust within your Peer Groups, lead with the leaders, and have a lot of FUN !

5 — Most Importantly, whether you Win or not, ACT (in quotes) on the ideas immediately after they are presented, of course if the Business sees any value in it.

Pizzas, Tattoos, Musical events are ways to unwind at Goibibo’s Internal Hack events !!
An external speaker talks during our Hackathon on ideas and tips for hacks.

Hackathons are convivial and are also great platforms that teach you to enhance learning from possibilities, unleash your abilities to try and achieve more, EMBRACE failures positively, and most importantly making you realise your craziest ideas — Imagine all of this happening over a slice of Pizza? Amazing, isn’t it?

Pizza is just an analogy BTW. We do stuff beyond Pizzas, and beer — for details on our recent all internal Battle Hack, follow us here.

No idea at our workplace is considered gnat. An idea is an idea. In fact our Hackathons have resulted in plug-able and actionable product features, which have gone live for the end-users.

Before we set out in making life-changing products, it’s nice to acknowledge our constant precedence to achieve the above values in our folks.

So, Happy hacking to you !
